Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about safari planning, safety, timing, and what a day in the bush feels like.
Is Tanzania safe to travel? +
Yes. Tanzania welcomes over a million visitors each year and ranks among Africa’s safest destinations. Travelling with Forestia means private safari experiences led by professional local guides who put your peace of mind first.
Can I see the Big Five? +
Absolutely. Tanzania is one of the best places on earth to encounter lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo in their natural habitats, especially across the northern circuit and Ngorongoro Crater.
When is the best time to visit Tanzania? +
Dry season (June-October and December-February) offers excellent wildlife viewing and beach weather. Mid-season (March & November) balances fewer crowds with solid sightings. Wet season (April-May) brings lush landscapes, lower rates, and a quieter safari.
Is it safe to go on safari? +
Yes. We only recommend parks and camps we know well. Follow park rules and your guide’s instructions. Local wildlife is not a risk when best practices are observed.
Is the water safe to drink while on safari? +
It varies by lodge. Always ask whether tap water is potable. Our vehicles carry a full tank of drinking water for refills of the reusable bottles we provide.
What safari vaccinations do I need? +
Yellow fever proof may be required for some itineraries. Hepatitis A and typhoid are commonly recommended; malaria prevention is essential. Speak with a travel health specialist before departure and review CDC destination guidance.
What documentation is necessary? +
Your passport must be valid for at least six months with blank pages. Tanzania e-visas or visas on arrival are available for many nationalities. Confirm vaccine certificates if travelling through yellow-fever risk countries.
How do transfers and pick-ups work? +
Every itinerary includes pre-arranged airport transfers and stage-by-stage pick-ups. We coordinate vehicles and meeting points so you never scramble on arrival.
How much cash should I bring, and what should I tip? +
USD cash is widely useful. As a guide: driver/guide US$10-25 per day; mountain porters US$5-10 per porter per day. Lodge tip boxes are common. Our team is paid wages; tips reflect exceptional service.
How much does an African safari cost? +
Budget safaris often run US$150-250 per person per day; mid-range US$400-500; luxury US$600-1,200+. A typical 7-day mid-range trip may fall around US$2,100-3,500 excluding international flights. Package pages list from-prices for our current itineraries.
